Framer vs Webflow: What 725 Scored Templates Tell Us About Each Platform

Framer vs Webflow: What 725 Scored Templates Tell Us About Each Platform

Framer is faster to a beautiful first version, Webflow is easier to grow into a content-heavy site. We compare October 2026 pricing, the CMS, SEO and code export, and what our library of 725 scored Framer and Webflow templates shows.

You've narrowed it down to two tabs: a Framer template with a hero that animates on scroll, and a Webflow template with a blog, a case study collection and a careers page already wired up. Both look good in the demo. Both cost about the same. The choice you make now decides how you'll edit the site, what you'll pay every month and how hard it will be to grow it in two years.

This is our Framer vs Webflow comparison, built on the 725 Framer and Webflow templates currently published in our library. We cover pricing as of October 2026, the CMS, interactions, SEO, ecommerce and code export, then what our template data says about each platform. If Shopify is also on your list, our three-way Webflow vs Framer vs Shopify comparison covers that decision.

Framer vs Webflow: The Short Answer

Pick Framer if the site is mostly a visual statement: a portfolio, a studio site, a launch page or a startup homepage where motion carries the brand and the content stays fairly small. Pick Webflow if the site is a content operation: a marketing team publishing every week, hundreds or thousands of CMS items, several content types that reference each other, a small store, or a developer who needs to export the code.

That split shows up clearly in our library. Of the 393 Framer templates we publish, 95% are tagged Portfolio & Agency. Of the 332 Webflow templates, 63% are, and Webflow carries far more Technology & Software and Retail & E-commerce templates. Creators build where each platform is strongest, and their templates are a fair signal of what each tool does well.

How the Two Platforms Feel to Build In

Framer works like a design tool that publishes. You place frames on a canvas, stack them with layout controls that behave like Figma's auto layout, and add effects from a panel: appear animations, scroll-linked motion, hover states, sticky sections. Designers coming from Figma usually ship a first page in an afternoon. The trade-off is that you're working inside Framer's component model, and anything outside it means writing React code components.

Webflow works like a visual front end for HTML and CSS. Every element has a class, every class has CSS properties, and you set breakpoints the way a developer would. That's why the learning curve is steeper: if you don't know what flexbox, positioning or a combo class does, the interface feels dense for the first few weeks. Once it clicks, you get precise control over structure and a class system that a team can maintain.

Interactions are where many people expect Framer to win outright, and for quick, polished motion it does. Webflow's Interactions editor is now powered by GSAP, though, so complex timeline animation is very possible there. It just takes more setup per effect.

The practical difference: Framer is faster to a beautiful first version. Webflow is slower to start and easier to keep organized at 80 pages and three editors.

Framer vs Webflow Pricing in October 2026

Both companies change their plans often, and Webflow restructured its site plans this year. These are the figures listed on webflow.com/pricing and framer.com/pricing as of October 2026, per site, in USD.

Framer has three tiers for most people. The free plan publishes to a Framer domain with 1 GB of bandwidth and is meant for non-commercial use. Basic is $10 a month billed yearly and adds a custom domain, 30 pages, 2 CMS collections, 1,000 CMS items and 50 GB of bandwidth. Pro is $30 a month billed yearly with 150 pages, 10 CMS collections, 2,500 CMS items, 100 GB of bandwidth and a staging environment, and its limits can be extended with paid add-ons. Additional editors are $20 a month each.

Webflow starts with a free Starter plan on a webflow.io domain (2 static pages, 50 CMS items, 1 GB). Basic is $15 a month billed yearly or $25 billed monthly, with a custom domain and 300 static pages but no CMS at all. Premium, which replaced the old CMS and Business plans, is $25 a month billed yearly or $39 billed monthly, with 20,000 CMS items, 40 collections and 50 GB of bandwidth that you can raise in steps. Ecommerce plans are separate: Standard is $29 a month billed yearly, Plus $74 and Advanced $212.

The detail that matters most: the cheapest plan that can run a blog is $10 a month on Framer and $25 a month on Webflow, both billed yearly. For a small site with a modest blog, Framer is cheaper. Once you need thousands of CMS items, Webflow's Premium includes far more content for the money than Framer Pro plus add-ons.

Two smaller costs can catch you out. Webflow sells Workspace plans on top of site plans, and features such as code export sit on the paid Workspace tiers. Framer's translation add-on is $20 per locale, while Webflow's Localize starts at $9 a month and scales with the number of locales. If you need three languages, price both before you commit. Our site builder cost calculator runs the totals for a specific setup.

Which Is Better for SEO, Framer or Webflow?

Neither platform will rank a site on its own, and both handle the technical basics well. Each lets you edit page titles, meta descriptions, Open Graph images and slugs, generates a sitemap, serves pages over a global CDN and offers redirects on paid tiers. For a 10 page portfolio, the SEO difference between them is close to zero. What you write and how fast your images load matter far more.

Webflow pulls ahead when SEO depends on content volume. A content team publishing 300 articles, programmatic landing pages, or a resource library with filtered categories needs a CMS that holds thousands of items across many related collections. That's Webflow's home ground. Framer's CMS handles a blog and a project collection well, and its Pro limits can be extended, but it's built for smaller content sets.

Our take: for a portfolio or a launch page, choose on design. For a site where organic traffic from a large blog is the main growth channel, Webflow is the safer foundation.

The CMS, Ecommerce and Code Export

These three are where the platforms differ most, and where a wrong pick costs real rebuild time.

CMS Depth

Webflow's CMS supports custom fields, reference and multi-reference fields between collections, filtering and sorting on the page, and up to 40 collections on Premium. A SaaS site with a blog, customer stories, integrations and a changelog, all cross-linked, fits comfortably. Framer's CMS is simpler and pleasant for editors, and it works well for a blog, a project archive or a team page. The ceiling arrives sooner if your content model has many types that reference one another.

Ecommerce

Webflow has native ecommerce, capped at 500 products on Standard and 15,000 on Advanced, with a custom cart and checkout. It suits a brand selling a focused product line from a design-led site. Framer has no built-in checkout as of October 2026, so selling means a third-party plugin, a payment link or a Shopify integration. If the store is the business, neither is the strongest choice, which is the case the three-way comparison covers.

Code Export and Ownership

Webflow can export static HTML and CSS on paid Workspace plans, though CMS items and pages can't be exported. Framer offers no official code export, so a Framer site lives on Framer's hosting. For most portfolios that's fine. For an agency handing a site to a client's engineering team, it can decide the question.

What Our Template Library Says About Each Platform

Every template in our library was scored by multiple reviewers on our team, designers for the Design Score and developers for the Dev Score, and the published scores are their averaged result. Only templates with an Overall Score of 7.0 or above are published. Our methodology page explains how the scores work. Here's what the 725 Framer and Webflow templates show.

Framer Has More Free Templates Worth Using

Half of our published Framer templates are free: 198 of 393. On Webflow, only 36 of 332 are free, about 11%. The free Framer templates also hold up better. They average 8.0/10 Overall, against 7.7/10 for free Webflow templates, and 25 free Framer templates reach 9.0 Overall or higher compared with 2 on Webflow. If your budget for a template is zero, Framer gives you a much deeper pool. Our Framer free templates and Webflow free templates pages list them all.

Paid Webflow Templates Cost More and Score Slightly Higher

The median paid Framer template costs $59, and the middle half of paid Framer templates sits between $49 and $89. The median paid Webflow template costs $79, and the middle half runs from $49 to roughly $120. A quarter of paid Webflow templates cost $100 or more, compared with 9% on Framer.

For that extra spend, Webflow templates average 8.3/10 on Design, Dev and Overall, against 8.1/10 for Framer. The gap is small, but it holds at the top: 30% of our Webflow templates reach 9.0 Overall, compared with 22% of Framer templates. Webflow's class-based structure gives developers more to evaluate and more to get right, and the best Webflow creators build CMS structures that hold up with real content.

Each Platform Owns Different Categories

Framer templates cluster heavily around portfolios, studios and personal sites: 95% are tagged Portfolio & Agency, and 189 of the free Framer templates sit in that category. That's why Framer is our first suggestion for a portfolio or agency site on a tight budget. Our 20 best Framer portfolio templates roundup is a good shortlist.

Webflow is broader. Technology & Software and Retail & E-commerce each account for about 20% of our Webflow templates, against 9% and 2% on Framer. If you're building a SaaS marketing site, a fintech product page or a small store, the Webflow side of the library has far more starting points, with templates like Cash for fintech and Clixr E-commerce for a product-led shop.

Features Reflect What Each Tool Makes Easy

Animation appears in 96% of our Framer templates and 49% of our Webflow templates. Sticky scrolling shows up in about half of Framer templates, and custom cursors in 38%. Webflow templates lean the other way: 62% include a blog, against 47% on Framer, and 42% ship with ecommerce pages built in. CMS support is close on both, at 88% of Framer templates and 91% of Webflow templates.

What that means for you: a Framer template usually gives you more motion out of the box. A Webflow template more often gives you a content structure, blog, careers or store, that's ready for real use.

Which Should You Pick? Six Real Scenarios

A freelance designer's portfolio with 8 to 12 case studies. Framer. The Basic plan at $10 a month covers it, the free portfolio templates are strong, and you'll edit it in a tool that feels like Figma. Olyver is a free example of what that pool looks like.

A Series A SaaS company with a weekly blog and a growth team. Webflow. You'll want Premium's 20,000 CMS items, multi-reference fields for customer stories and integrations, and a class system several designers can share without breaking each other's work.

A studio site where motion is the pitch. Framer, unless the studio also publishes a large journal. Framer's built-in effects let you test five scroll treatments in the time Webflow takes to build one.

A brand selling 40 products alongside a design-led site. Webflow on an Ecommerce plan, or Shopify if the store will grow into the hundreds of products. Framer would need a plugin for checkout.

An agency handing the site to a client's developers. Webflow, because code export exists and the class structure maps cleanly to CSS a developer can read. Framer's lack of export makes handoff a hosting decision as much as a design one.

A startup that needs a launch page this week and isn't sure what comes next. Our best Framer templates for business and startups roundup filters for templates that hold up when you customize them with real company content. Framer. It's the fastest route to a polished page, and the cost of rebuilding later is low when the site is three pages.

If you want to compare templates before deciding, every card in our Framer library and Webflow library plays a looping screen recording of the full homepage as soon as you hover over it, so you can scan dozens on both platforms without opening a single demo tab. The 30 best Framer templates and 30 best Webflow templates roundups are shorter shortlists.

Frequently Asked Questions

Framer is better for design-led sites with modest content, such as portfolios, studio sites and launch pages, because it's faster to build in and its effects are built in. Webflow is better for content-heavy marketing sites, small stores and projects that need code export. Neither is better for every project.

For small sites, yes. As of October 2026, Framer's Basic plan is $10 a month billed yearly and includes a small CMS, while Webflow's cheapest plan with a CMS is Premium at $25 a month billed yearly. At large content volumes Webflow's Premium includes far more CMS items per dollar. Templates follow the same pattern: half of our Framer templates are free, and the median paid one costs $59 against $79 on Webflow.

Not directly. There's no official importer between the two, and a Framer template can't be opened in Webflow, so the design has to be rebuilt. Content is easier: Webflow can import CSV files into CMS collections, so blog posts and project entries can move once you have them in a spreadsheet.

Both cover the technical basics: editable meta tags, clean slugs, automatic sitemaps and fast CDN hosting. For a small site the difference is negligible. For a site that depends on publishing hundreds of articles or landing pages, Webflow's larger CMS limits and reference fields between collections make it the stronger choice.

It depends on what you need. In our library, Webflow templates average 8.3/10 Overall against 8.1/10 for Framer, and 30% of Webflow templates reach 9.0 compared with 22% of Framer templates. Framer has far more strong free templates, though: 25 free Framer templates reach 9.0 Overall, against 2 on Webflow.
