Open Graph is a set of meta tags (og:title, og:description, og:image and others) that tell social platforms and messaging apps what to show when someone shares a link. Without them, a shared link often appears with no image and the wrong text.

What size should an og:image be?

1200 x 630 pixels (a 1.91:1 shape) works for large previews on Facebook, LinkedIn, X and most messaging apps. Keep important text away from the edges, since some apps crop the image.

Does this check Twitter cards too?

Yes. We check the twitter:card tag and its image. X falls back to Open Graph tags when Twitter-specific ones are missing, but you need twitter:card set to summary_large_image to get the big image preview.

I fixed my tags. Why do platforms still show the old preview?

Platforms cache link previews. Facebook and LinkedIn have their own tools to refresh a URL, and other apps update their cache after some time.

What We Check

We read the page's title, description, og:title, og:description, og:image, og:url and twitter:card tags, then build a preview from them the way most platforms do. Where a tag is missing, we show what platforms fall back to.

We also download the start of the preview image to measure it. Large previews look best at 1200 x 630 pixels, and an image served over plain http may be refused by some apps.

Why It Matters

A shared link is often the first thing people see of your site. A clear image and a title that isn't cut off stand out far more than a bare link, and they only take a few minutes to set up: Webflow, Framer and Shopify all have Open Graph fields in their page or store settings.
